Characters - Melina in OVW
note - please do not reproduce this without proper credit - this was written by and for m-p.org.

Melina was signed to a WWE developmental contract in January 2004, and reported to their developmental territory OVW almost immediately following that. It was a couple of months, however, until she made her long awaited debut as an official member of the Ohio Valley Wrestling roster. The wait ended on March 20th, 2004. Her debut proved to be one to remember, when she aligned herself with Johnny Nitro in a big way. Credit to OVWrestling.com for the following television results:

Melina & Matt Capotelli - Melina's frst OVW appearance

INTERVIEW WITH MATT CAPOTELLI: Matt Capotelli comes to the ring escorted by a young lady we learn is Melina, the former girlfriend of John Hennigan! Capotelli says Melina told him some secrets about Hennigan he thought he should share with the audience like how he gave Melina a picture of the ring he was going to buy her… How he spent $200 on a cardboard cutout of himself just to have someone to hang out with… and how he made Melina introduce him to his friends using ridiculous nicknames like Johnny Icon, Johnny Blaze, Johnny Stardust, Johnny Dreamweaver, and Johnny The Undercover Lover! Hennigan then comes out and says Cornette can call him Johnny Spade from now on. Cornette tells him there is already a Johnny Spade in OVW, but he says it’s a cool name and he doesn’t care. He calls Melina a slut and a liar and starts to manhandle her. Capotelli takes a few swings and starts to go after Hennigan, but Melina then comes up behind Capotelli and low blows him! Melina and Henningan embrace and then start kicking the crap out of Capotelli. The officials come out and finally get everyone separated!

Matt Capotelli - and everyone else - learned very quickly exactly who Melina really was. Being Johnny Nitro’s girlfriend, she was brought in to helpgive Nitro an advantage in his feud with Capotelli. And she definitely did give him an advantage in his matches, helping Nitro (and occasionally his tag team partner Joey Matthews) gain wins week in and week out. Capotelli eventually got fed up, and demanded she be put in her first match in OVW - where she and Johnny would go against Matt in a handicap match at the June 4th, 2004 show of OVW’s annual Six Flags Summer Sizzler Series. Some miscommunication caused Johnny and Melina to come up short in that match. That didn’t stop Melina from causing trouble in Johnny’s future matches with Capotelli - still determined to help Nitro gain victories. After a few weeks over wreaking havoc, Matt realized that he couldn’t fight this battle alone. He enlisted in the services of Alexis Laree - a woman more than happy to teach Melina a lesson. A tag team match was made for the June 18th, 2004 Summer Sizzler show - Melina and Joey Matthews going against Matt Capotelli and Alexis Laree. Unfourtunately, Joey and Melina lost the match, and this started Alexis’ conquest to stop Melina’s match interference all together. As Melina would attempt to help Johnny or Joey Matthews win their match via a head shot with her purse, or throwing some brass knuckles in the ring, Alexis would come to the ring and point this out to the referee, causing Melina’s plans to be foiled. It seemed as if Melina’s interference days were over, until Alexis’ attention was direction else where. Laree was scheduled to take on WWE Diva and OVW Alumni Victoria at the July 9th, 2004 Summer Sizzler show, but it was unfortunately rained out. This seemed to mark the end of the small feud between Alexis and Melina. After a few weeks of freedom to interfere  in Nitro and Matthews matches as she pleased, some one else came along to attempt to put a stop to it. This time, it was Synn. Who brought Melina’s interference  to Synn’s attention was none other than Johnny Jeter - a man Nitro and Matthews had been having problems with in the past few weeks. All it took was one interference by Melina in his match with Nitro on the  July 17th, 2004 edition of OVW TV to make him search for an equalizer. Right in the middle of the match, Jeter up and left the ring, and headed towards the backstage area. This seemed to confuse everyone - especially Nitro and Melina. However, a few seconds later, Jeter reemerged with Synn by his side, and had her chase down Melina - only to be cut off by the referee. It seemed as though Jeter had enough of Melina cheating in his matches, so he searched for some one who would be willing to try to put her in her place. Synn seemed to fit the criteria. Although Synn got a few shots in on Melina on a few of the OVW TV Broadcasts, it always seemed that Melina ended up having the last laugh at the end of the night. This lead to a match being made - one for the final Summer Sizzler Series Show of 2004 - on August 13, 2004. This match would be a 6-Person Mixed Tag - Melina, Nitro, and Matthews versus Synn, Jeter, and Seven (formerly known as Mordecai in the WWE, returned to OVW at Synn’s request to help Jeter battle Nitro and Matthews at the July 23rd, 2004 Summer Sizzler Series Show). The match didn’t see all that much action between the girls, but just enough for Synn to get her hands on Melina a few times. Unfourtunately, the match ended in a loss after Nitro was pinned after a double team finisher from Jeter and Seven. Synn seemed to be happy with that victory, because she no longer pursued Melina for interfering in matches - which she, to no one’s surprise, continued to do.

Melina, Johnny Nitro, & Joey Matthews

Just as it seemed as though Melina and Nitro didn’t have anything else to worry about - along comes 18 year old rookie Ken Doane. The issue began with a regular one on one match pitting Nitro against Doane - nothing out of the ordinary. However, something pretty unexpected happened, and Doane managed to get a 3-count on Nitro - much to the surprise of Johnny and Melina. Nitro attempted to take out his frustration on the rookie the following week when he faced Joey Matthews - a long time tag team partner of Nitro’s. However, when a double team attempt backfired, Nitro ended up getting pinned by Doane again! And he wasn’t even in the the match! Being pinned 2 weeks in a row by an 18 year old ‘kid’ didn’t seem to make Nitro a happy camper - as he and Melina interrupted an in-ring interview Jim Cornette was conducting with Doane to following week. Nitro took this opporunity to challenge Doane to a match at Fall Brawl - a 2 hour special taking place on September 4th, 2004. Conveying just how confident he was that he could finally defeat Doane - despite the 2 pins he took in the past couple of weeks - he added a special stipulation to the bout. If Doane were to beat Nitro a third time, he gets an evening of passion with Melina! This seemed to shock Melina, but she, as well, didn’t seem too intimidated by Doane. After the match was agreed upon, Nitro attempts to attack Doane, but ended up getting rolled up for yet ANOTHER pin! Having received the 3rd pin in 3 weeks, Nitro seemed to have all the motivation he needed to finally get a victory over Doane at Fall Brawl 2 - that, and, not to mention, the stipulation of the match! When Fall Brawl 2 rolled around, few were in doubt that Doane could pull off a 4th victory over Nitro. However, the odds seemed to shift in Nitro’s favor as the match seemed destined to be a 3 on 1 encounter as Joey Matthews joined Melina in accompanying Nitro to ringside. Before the match can even get started, Matthews gets on the mic and announces that should Doane win the match, he’ll give him a key to the Jacuzzi Suite at the Holiday Inn Express for him and Melina to use for the night. Soon after the match began, and right from the beginning, the 3 on 1 odds were felt. Throughout the match, Melina and Matthews attempted to costs Doane the match, but nothing seemed to keep him down. In a final attempt, Melina jumped on the ring apron to distract the referee as Matthews gets in the ring and attempts to punch Doane as Nitro holds him. That plan backfired as Doane moved out of the way and Matthews inadvertently hit Nitro! This gave Doane enough time to dispose of Matthews over the top rope, but as he had his attention turned to outside the ring, Nitro rolled him up for the pin fall! Johnny had finally scored a win over the rookie Doane, even if it was through some ‘assistance’. After exiting the ring, Matthews awarded Nitro and Melina with the ‘key’. Now that Melina’s honor was defended successfully, what else could be up for grabs in this feud? The next week on OVW TV, another match was made between Nitro and Doane for the following week. This time, however, it was Doane’s turn to put something on the line. It turned out that the thing that was up for grabs this time around was Doane’s car - a Camaro. When the 3rd encounter between Nitro and Doane came around, the 3 on 1 advantage seemed eminent, but before the bout even started, referee Chris Kay ejected Matthews from ringside! This didn’t deter Nitro or Melina, however, and they still managed to gain some sort of 2 on 1 advantage through Melina’s constant interference. Melina’s interference proved very useful - when Doane was distracted by Melina one too many times, he spanked her! Nitro, not in view of this, but seeing Doane’s back turned, low blowed him out of the referee’s view and got a pinfall of of that. Although the crowd was elated to see Melina finally get some sort of revenge sought on her, Doane still lost the match - and his car! After a week of using the car however they pleased, Nitro, Matthews, and Melina were once again meddling in Doane’s business. As Doane faced Romeo Roselli, the trio came out and talked trash. Once the match was over, Matthews and Nitro went to attack Doane. Doane managed to fight them off, however, and ended up planting Melina with a kiss for good measure! This obviously infuriated Nitro, who went on to challenge Doane to yet another match. This time, he was willing to give Doane his car back AND a week with Melina if Doane could defeat him. However, if he lost, he’d have to leave OVW forever! The last hitch in this match was that there was going to be a special guest referee - Joey Matthews! This bold challenge would come back to haunt Nitro, as Doane managed to defeat him! During the match, when Matthews was knocked down, a replacement referee came down and counted the pin fall for Doane - awarding him his car AND a week with Melina! The next week, we would be graced with a video package detailing all the duties that Melina had to complete during her week with Doane. They weren’t a pretty sight! Melina was pretty much reduced to being a maid, cleaning up after Doane and fixing him meals. Finally, when Melina’s week of enslavement was over, Nitro and Matthews went all out to show Doane what the repercussions were for messing with them. As Doane finished a match, they came down and commenced to beating him with their belts! The belts, however, would end up playing a part in yet another match up. The next week, Doane had an interview with Jim Cornette. This, of course, was interrupted by Matthews and Nitro. This lead to another match being made for the upcoming Crusade Rumble. The match would be Doane vs. Joey Matthews in a strap match. If Doane won, he’d get to give Nitro 10 lashes with a strap! Come Crusade Rumble, despite attempted interference by Nitro and Melina, Doane was victorious, and did give Nitro those 10 lashes. This match marked the end of MNM’s feud with Ken Doane.

Melina, Johnny Nitro, & Joey Matthews

The week after their feud with Doane ended, Matthews and Nitro had a match with OVW Southern Tag Champs Mac Johnson and Seth Skyfire. To everyone’s surprise - and thanks to some pepper spray in Melina’s possession, Nitro and Matthews won their first OVW Tag Titles! The next week, when MNM came to the ring to discuss how they finally proved they were above everyone else, Johnson and Skyfire interrupted and demanded a rematch for the titles. OVW matchmaker Jim Cornette was more than happy to oblige, but this match would have special stipulations. To insure a fair match, Melina wouldn’t only be banned from the ring, but from the building! The match would take place in 2 weeks after their Thanksgiving break. Once the break was over, and the match went down, it was reaffirmed that MNM would truly go to any lengths to be victorious. Throughout the night, some one in a Frosty The Snowman outfit was in and out of the crowd, giving candy to the children. When the time came for the match, Frosty turned out to be on Nitro and Matthews’s side! Frosty handed Nitro a pair of brass knuckles, which he used to knock out Skyfire and pin him to retain the tag titles! Johnson and Skyfire were able to get a hold of ‘Frosty’ and revealed ‘him’ to be Melina! Despite the odds being against them, MNM still found a way to get Melina in the building! This enraged Johnson and Skyfire even more! The following week, when they were asked about giving the former champs another rematch, Nitro and Matthews said that their contracts said they only had to defend their titles once every 30 days, and they didn’t intend on doing so until after the New Year. Eventually, MNM was forced to defend their titles against Skyfire and Johnson, but the week before the night of the scheduled defense, MNM launched a sneak attack on Mac Johnson, injuring his abdominal wall. Thinking this would get them out of the title defense, they were shocked the next week when Jim Cornette told them they would still have to defend their titles that night - against a newly formed tag team! The Thrillseekers (Johnny Jeter and Matt Capotelli) were their opponents. The young, new, energetic tag team seemed to be too much for MNM - even with the persistent interference of Melina, and they defeated MNM for the OVW Southern Tag Team Titles! This outraged MNM, and the next week, they demanded a rematch. The Thrillseekers weren’t too quick to give it to them, however. Instead, they come up with a different idea. Jeter and Capotelli asked OVW Matchmaker Jim Cornette to come up with a ‘formidable’ tag team for MNM to fight. If they beat this team, they would get their rematch at the titles. Cornette was given a week to announce the team, and it turned out that the team he came up with was more than a little ‘formidable’! The Dudley Boyz were announced as MNM’s opponents! However, they wouldn’t face them until the following week. Once the match came around, not many expected MNM to last very long. But, much to the shock of everyone - they were victorious! Well, not without their trademark ‘rule bending’, of course. Matthews was able to pin Bubba Dudley thanks to a knock-out brass-knuckles punch! They paid for their cheating in the end, however, and Matthews ended up getting a 3D through a table. The next week, they finally got their tag title rematch - although, unfortunately, they came up short in that contest. However, it soon became clear to see that there were more teams than just MNM and The Thrillseekers that were looking for the Tag Titles. The Tolands and the new ‘eccentric’ tag team of ‘The Heartbreakers’ - which were accompanied by their manager, Mo Green - were also looking for a shot. Out of all the tag teams, MNM started to have the most issues with The Heartbreakers, however. After a few weeks of confronting each other and talking trash, a Number 1 Contender’s Match for the Tag Titles was made between the two teams. When that match came around, however, there wasn’t even an official victor! All hell broke loose at ringside, with all 4 tag teams getting into it - even Mo Green and Melina started fighting! But, within a few weeks, amongst all the chaos in the OVW tag team division, 2 of the 4 teams vying for the titles were called up to WWE - The Heartbreakers to RAW, and MNM to SMACKDOWN, leaving the heated race for the Southern Tag Titles to quickly fizzle out. After MNM arrived in the WWE and soon clamed the WWE Tag Team Titles, they didn’t have much else left to do in OVW but flaunt their new belts! This caused some scuffles with old rivals Seth Skyfire and Mac Johnson - one of which resulted in MNM breaking Johnson’s ankle with a steel chair! This left Skyfire looking for revenge - which came in the form of a tag team match. The match would have MNM pitted against Skyfire and special tag partner Rey Mysterio at the June 3rd, 2005 Summer Sizzler Series show - a match that MNM lost. After losing that match, the trio completely disappeared for OVW television. Having not shown their faces for the whole month of June on OVW TV, one must assume that their OVW tenure must be slowly drawing to a close. Nothing set in stone, though, as MNM just might show up for another Summer Sizzler Series Match-Up -  shows that WWE Superstars are known to frequent. So keep your eyes peeled - MNM still may be looking to stir up some trouble in OVW! Only time will tell!
