Kyra was the alias Melina used while wrestling in EWF, UPW, IZW, and other Southern California Indy promotions from 2001 to 2003.

Volatile, beautiful, adventurous, and driven. All adjectives that describe just some of the many sides of the dynamic Kyra. Born in Los Angeles to a boxing father and a wildlife preservationist mother, Kyra was first introduced to wrestling at the age of three when she would get the best of the family’s pet white tiger cub ,Charlie, in spirited matches for the amusement of family and friends. As time passed and Kyra evolved into a pretty young girl, the family incorporated their baby girl into a traveling wildlife show, in which she became the main attraction. The money from the events was good, and allowed Kyra’s dad to get out of the ring. Her matches against the various adult wildebeasts in their keep drew thousands to zoos, arenas and wildlife preserves throughout the Western United States. To this day, Kyra still affectionately refers to these trained animals as the most professional workers she has ever faced in wrestling.
But, not all of Kyra’s fan base were awestruck kids and dirty old men. For three years, the American government scouted the young woman for a position in the CIA. At the age of 19, she was approached by the head of the division himself for a clandestine mission in her own city, part of massive drug trafficking sting. Her explosive skills in hand to hand combat,
as demonstrated in her stage act, natural good looks and cunning intelligence made her the perfect operative for the mission. Kyra was slow to accept the job, especially since it would sidetrack from her path towards a masters degree in Political Science. But she reluctantly agreed when the Director appealed to her sense of patriotism and justice.
At this early point in her exciting career as an operative, Kyra assumed the cover of a model and actress, appearing in Nike ads, movies and stage productions that required the services of an athletic woman. This identity merged beautifully with her important “day job”, as many of the ring leaders of the marijuana trafficking operation she was sent to bust doubled as members of the entertainment industry.
Kyra brought 198 dealers to justice and effectively crippled the the California drug market during her tenure as an agent, but not without a price to her innocence. Kyra had become close to many of the men and women she took down, and added many of their nefarious talents to her repertoire as a fighter. To her own surprise and the chagrin of her parents, Kyra discovered her dark side through her association with the criminals, and resolved that she would use these skills as needed for the remainder of her life.
This background is all a matter of public record now that Kyra is out of the espionage business. But, her retirement left her jaded and hungry for the action and adventure of her former life. She began to seek and attend underground fight tournaments in the seedier sections of LA to satisfy her thirst for action. At one event, she cut down five opponents in a single night and walked away with $10,000. She was conflicted by the notion that fighting had become a drug every bit as dangerous and addictive as the cannabis that she had been sent to eradicate just three years earlier, but she could not
help herself as her victories piled up and her reputation grew within the growing community of illegal fighters. Her fight club legend is that she has never lost one of these ultra-violent matches, verses male or female. There are no marks on her
angelic face to prove otherwise, and there is unlikely to be anyone to step up and contradict considering the clandestine nature of the fight club phenomenon.
Kyra’s life took another major swerve when and Empire Wrestling Federation wrestler who wishes to remain anonymous witnessed Kyra’s working display of destruction at a tournament in Sacramento. The wrestler was a star of the independent wrestling scene, in the best shape of his life and was curious to find out if he had what it takes for underground fighting. Though he discovered he wanted no part of it, he was impressed with the lovely Kyra and convinced her to join Jesse Hernandez’s School of Hard Knocks and Empire Wrestling Federation. She was reluctant, not knowing if wrestling would be enough of a challenge. But, the bulky worker convinced her that underground fighting was a dead end in terms of public appeal, and that only in wrestling would the entire world get to know the greatness and unbridled fury of
Kyra.
In EWF, Kyra’s story has been as remarkable as it has been with anything else she has tried in her life, and she isgetting regular work in other federations as well. “Vixxen” nor ”diva”, she has become a superstar the equal of any man on the Indy circuit! Kyra’s beauty and charm cannot mask that she is a fiercely tenacious fighter and athlete at heart. Fans
who remember her as the the petite ingénue who playfully worked with animals for the amusement of a family audience, may be put off by some of her tactics when they see her today. A degree of arrogance and sarcasm has worked it’s way into her personality, and her natural contempt for wrestlers who do not respect the sport she has come to love cannot always be hidden. But, for every fan she has lost from her days of innocence, there are three who love this newest version of the electrifying Kyra. Her signature Kyrapractor and Diva-stating kicks, along with sassiness and sex appeal play to a contemporary audience looking for an “edge” in their favorite ladies. Kyra still is known to steal away to a fight club now and then, but it is in the squared circle of professional wrestling that her legend will grow. |
