• WHAT? — “Planet Terror” (2007), half of the “Grindhouse” double feature.
• WHO? – Cherry Darling, a “go go dancer” (NOT a stripper! There’s a difference!) who, in the wake of a zombie invasion, loses an appendage and gains a useful weapon. She is played by Rose McGowan.
• WHY? – Cherry has a sharp tongue, and doesn’t hold back in tough situations. With her leg gun, she takes out countless numbers of zombies and shows courage in the face of bleak circumstances. Of course, the movie is over-the-top, but her character is relatable to the WWE Diva in every way - she talks the talk and walks the walk.
• PLOT? – After an experimental bio nerve gas is accidentally released at a remote U.S. military base in Texas, those exposed to the gas turn into flesh-eating, mutating zombies out to kill. An assortment of various people who include stripper Cherry (Rose McGowen), her shady mechanic ex-boyfriend Wray (Freddy Rodriguez), a strong-willed doctor (Marley Shelton), the local sheriff, and an assortment of various people must join forces to survive the night as the so-called “sickos” threaten to take over the whole town and the world. |

Cherry Darling: “No, it sounds like a go-go dancer name. There’s a difference.”• El Wray: “So what are you going to do now?”
Cherry Darling: “I’m going to be a stand-up comedian.”
El Wray: “You’re not funny.”
Cherry Darling: “That’s what I keep trying to tell everybody but they all say I’m hilarious.”
El Wray: “But you’re not.”
Cherry Darling: “There’s a difference between being frank, and being a dick.”
• El Wray: “That’s my jacket. I looked for that jacket for two weeks.”
Cherry Darling: “Oh, really, Wray? How long did you look for me?”
El Wray: “The jacket belonged to me. You didn’t.”
• “Look, you were being an unbelievable dick. I was walking out on you. I was cold, I took your fucking jacket. So, if you’re go on one of your psycho, obsessive, controlling rants about a fucking jacket, then fucking take it ‘cuz I’d rather fucking freeze than fucking hear about it one more time.”
• El Wray: “Would you quit crying over fucking spilt milk?”
Cherry Darling: “I have no leg!”
• El Wray: “I DO believe in you, always have. I believe you could be better. You deserve better, even better than me. Right now, I need you to become who you were meant to be. Stand!”
• [After Abby’s head is blown off] “Is anyone else here a bio-chemical engineer?”
• Cherry Darling: “No… you can’t go. Two against the world, remember?”
El Wray: “There will be, I promise.” [Touches her stomach] “I never miss.” |
| • Of course, the gun attached to her leg is of upmost importance. Aside from that, Cherry stays in the same clothes the whole movie, aside from the beginning during her “routine”. Her signature look consists of long, dark hair, a red and black striped tube top, a black miniskirt, and a single stiletto boot. |
