• WHAT? — “The Dark Knight” (2008), the upcoming sequel to “Batman Begins” (2005), about the beginnings of the superhero Batman.
• WHO? – Rachel Dawes, childhood friend and love interest of Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), whose character was created specifically for the films. She is played by Katie Holmes (first two photos) in “Batman Begins”, and is played by Maggie Gyllenhaal (last two photos) in “The Dark Knight”.
• WHY? – Rachel is Gotham City’s Assitant District Attorney, and is not intimidated by big-time crooks and mob bosses, all of whom she is looking to take down. She shows compassion for Bruce, despite the fact that he is often brooding the murder of his parents and looking for their killer. Even though Batman often comes to her aid, she shows an ability to fend for herself, and shows real bravery in the face of danger.
• PLOT? – Batman (Christian Bale) raises the stakes in his war on crime in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight.” With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker (Heath Ledger).
